Australia, Friday, July 20, 2012: Our First Snorkeling Site

This is a picture as we approached the first site we would snorkel at. In total we did three different sites, each a bit different. The water temperature was about 73 and they provided wet suits for all. The air temperature was about 78. At each site, we had about 1 hour which turned out to be plenty. The corals, colors, and fishes were amazing and in a seemingly endless variety. The water is an amazing blue with incredible visibility. This is really an up close and personal experience as you are surrounded by it all. After the second site, they feed you a great lunch and have a marine biologist talk about the reef and the things seen. For part of each site, she would lead a 20 minute tour and point things out. We returned to Port Douglas about 5:30 PM. As I mentioned, the trip back was pretty rough. While they had closed the sides of the boat, there was still a fair amount of water and mist that could get to you. It was actually a pretty cold trip getting back in. We didn’t realize how tiring this was, but both after a nice hot shower, both of us fell asleep about 6:30 and took a two hour nap.
